David Goulding returned to his previous school last year but this time as an IT Professional Apprentice.
David attended Foxford School & Community Arts College as a student and was thrilled to return after applying to CWT Chamber Training for an Apprenticeship.
Over the past year he has provided first line support to the entire school site and also developed his skills into providing more complex, high level IT support. This has eased the workload and demands on other technicians and the IT support department as a whole.
Impressed with his skills and attitude, David was given the responsibility of moving forward a number of projects on behalf of the school; including the roll out of I-Pad and I-Pod technology to develop teaching and learning experiences for students. This involved negotiating with suppliers, planning the installation and configuration of equipment in line with the school timetable and academic year and ensuring appropriate security measures were in place.
David was also tasked with organising the training for faculty members of staff, including the delivery of a formal training session. Despite the fact that David had little or no experience in training delivery, he rose to the challenge and his session was very well received. Comments included:
“Spoke with confidence and authority”
“communication skills are excellent”
“staff clearly felt inspired to use the new technology”
In addition, David has further developed links with suppliers and contractors in order to achieve the best service, products and prices. Examples of this are:
USB prices halved
Dell new order prices significantly reduced
Improved warranty services for particular products on site
As a result David has saved his employer in excess of over £25,000.
David is undertaking the Level 3 Diploma for IT Professionals with CWT Chamber Training. David found the Apprenticeship training to be very beneficial to his career, enabling him to learn while earning a wage in a real job .
