More and more, employers are looking to recruit people who have practical industry experience combined with accounting qualifications. Having the right qualifications makes you a more valuable asset to your employer and adds scope to your working life. The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is an internationally recognised accounting qualification for all those working in the finance and accounting industry. AAT consists of foundation (level 2), intermediate (level 3) and technician (level 4) stages which each take a year to complete. You will gain a qualification in its own right for each level. If you are an accounts assistant or are an aspiring management accountant the AAT qualification will suit anyone working in Financial Services, Professional Services, Commerce and the Public Sector. Each qualification is a combination of practical experience and exams.

What level is right for me?
AAT is suitable for those who have recently left full time education, (who may be eligible for subsidised training with an Apprenticeship) and those who have many years working experience, perhaps without formal qualification. Exemptions are granted for appropriate qualifications/experience and some students may commence at intermediate or technician level.
Entry Requirements
There are no minimum entry criteria and no age restrictions. However you must be working within a finance department at the appropriate level, either full-time, part-time or on a voluntary basis in order to generate the necessary evidence to prove competence. CWT will guide you on this.
Duration & Format
Completion is anticipated within 18 months per level. You will be required to attend day release at both levels. The AAT also requires end of year testing for both Level 2 and Level 3 Accountancy NVQs. In order to maintain their high standards AAT set and mark these examinations, which cover all the underpinning knowledge required. An appointed personal Training Officer will visit you in the workplace to assess progress made during off the job training. Progress will be recorded at each visit.
